The 'Shotokan' Karate Dojo has changed to 'Meikai' Karate-Do and become more Okinawan in emphasis, utilising Karate in a more self-defensive manner. Sessions include Kata, Bunkai, Zanshin and coordination techniques in the the new syllabus. The style also incorporates very few 'high kicks' and excludes competition training skills, as such it is considered ideal for the more mature student.
Also taught as part of the syllabus are Shiatsu and Yoga to aid in creating a healthy body, balanced mind and rounded character by training. This now means that the Dojo is not for the overly competitive, indeed it is a place for safe and serious study aimed primarily at improving one's quality of life.
The Mid Sussex Karate Dojo was formed in 1989. The club is geographically very convenient for those who live in Haywards Heath or Burgess Hill, and is easily reached from most of mid Sussex.
